MECHANISNS OF INTOXICATIONS

THE EFFECTS OF EMBIQUINE ON GLUTATHIONE-DEGRADING ENZYMES SYSTEM IN RATS

L.V. Boitsova

The effects of embiquine administered at a 1/2 LD50 single dose on reduced glutathione level as well as g-Glutamyltranspeptidase, peptidase, aminopeptidase M, and b-lyase activities in rat liver and kidneys were studied.

It was shown that cytotoxic effects of an antitumor preparation reduced glutathione level in the studied tissues in the earlier period of intoxication with the consequent compensatory increase in liver (3 hours) and kidneys (24 hours). Embiquine decreased peptidase, aminopeptidase M, and b-lyase activities during the first hour of cytostatic administration. A distinct increase in activities of glutathione-degrading enzymes was observed 3 hours after administration. A process of antitumor preparation biotransformation is suggested to account for.
