THE MECHANISMS OF DRUG-INDUCED ALLERGIC AND AUTOIMMUNE REACTIONS

G.M. Butenko

Adverse reactions to drugs involving the immune mechanisms occupy a significant place among other causes. The induction of allergic and autoimmune reactions may be conditioned both by external and internal factors. The external factors include the route of drug administration, treatment duration, combination with other drugs or xenobiotics, diets, concomitant tissue injuries or irritations. On the other hand, age, gender, genetically dependent differences in various phase of drug metabolism, antigen recognition by immunocompetent cells and immunoregulatory mechanisms make a group of the internal factors. All this creates a very complicated and hardly prognosticated situation with regard to prevention of the above mentioned adverse reactions.
