THE EFFECT OF EMBIQUINE ON GLUTATHIONE DISULFIDE REDUCTASE SYSTEM IN RAT

L.V. Boitsova

The effects of embiquine administered at a 1/2 LD50 single dose on oxidized/reduced glutathione level, and glutathione reductase and thiol transferase activities in different rat organs were studied.

The cytotoxic effects of an antitumor preparation on a glutathione disulfide reductase system were shown to decrease a reduced glutathione level with a compensatory increase in its level in liver (3 hours) and kidneys (24 hours).

The increase in glutathione disulfide level in all organs studied activated glutathione reductase activity. Embiquine enhanced a thiol-disulfide exchange in spleen at an early stage of intoxication that was antagonized as a sharp suppression of thiol transferase activity 6 hours following embiquine administration, and to suppress thiol transferase activity in both liver and kidneys.
