THE MECHANISMS OF INTOXICATIONS

THE QUESTIONS OF AN ADVERSE ACTION OF DRUGS IN AGING

I.S. Bezverkhaya

Age-related rearrangement of the main physiological functions, ocurring in the organism during aging, is essentially in the character of drug action. The peculiarities of an aging organism`s reaction to medicinal substances are largely determined by the pharmacokinetic reasons, namely: abnormalities of absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination of the compounds. In turn, due to age-related changes in pharmacokinetic parameters there may occur a greater incidence of the negative reactions caused by the drugs in the elderly and old patients as compared to the young. Further research is required into the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs aiming to solve the problems related to preventing their side effects and possible complications at treatment of elderly people.
