468 children aged 9 to 12 years living in 3 (one — control and two — basic) regions have been examined. An increase in the total pollution of air with xenobiotics has been found to be accompanied by a rise in the number of children with the functional state of their organisms being on the level of mobilization of regulatory mechanisms with a growing frequency of changes to the state of their functional strain. The presence of a close association between the functional state of the nervous system and metabolic processes in the body under realization of positive adaptive results has been demonstrated. The level of total phenol excretion with urine in children is a biochemical indicator of a transitional state from strained adaptation to the formation of a stable adaptive optimum as well as a prognostic criterion of the risk of unfavourable changes in the health of the pediatric population.
