Though the silicon is a necessary microelement for alive organisms, the long contact with silica dust can cause a lot of diseases. Besides the pathology of lungs, with silica are related the autoimmune diseases, damages of kidneys, gastro-intestinal tract and other organs. The development of pathological process is determined by a type of silica, a way its introduction, duration of an exposition, specific and individual features of organism. Probably, the conducting role in realization of biological activity of silica is played properties of the surface, that confirmes by higher toxicity of its crystal forms in comparison with amorphous.
