The possibility for application of a new original sorbent biomelan for attenuation of tetrachloromethane intoxication using Wistar rats was investigated. It was shown that under acute tetrachloromethane intoxication the administeration of a biomelan for preventive or remedial purposes promoted the reduction in lipid peroxidation rates in liver, the increase in both cytochrome P-450 and b5 levels in the liver postmitochondrial fraction, the correction of both NADH- and succinate-dependent enzyme complexes of a mitochondrial electron transport chain as well as the decrement in both cytolysis and cholestasis. The biomelan proved to be equal as compared to the national sorbent polysorb, however does exceed in some indexes (dienes and trienes, indused malonodialdehyde formation, NADH-cytochrom c-reductase activity, protein-bound and nonprotein-bound SH-group concentrations in liver, serum alaninaminotransferase activity and cholesterol level) the efficacy of the latter.
